Chart of State-by-State Board Provider Approval Information


   General CE Information:

  • Psychologists: The Zur Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Zur Institute maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
  • Psychologists in CA: Take courses offered by the Zur Institute to fulfill CE requirements towards license renewal with BOP-MCEP.
  • MFTs and LCSWs in CA: Zur Institute courses meet the qualifications for CE credits for MFTs and LCSWs in CA as required by CA BBS. Provider #PCE6.
  • Social Workers: The Zur Institute, provider #1113, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, phone: 1-800-225-6880, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. The Zur Institute maintains responsibility for the program. For more information click here.

  • Alaska MFTs: The Alaska Board of Marital and Family Therapy has accepted Zur Institute's online CE course, Foundations of Clinical Supervision, as related to the practice of supervising a Marital and Family Therapist. For info, click here.
  • Florida Psychologists: Zur Institute is Provider Approved by The Florida Board of Psychology. Provider # 50-10793.
  • Florida Social Workers, MFTs and Counselors: Zur Institute is Provider Approved by The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. Provider # 50-10794.
  • Kansas Psychologists, Social Workers, MFTs, and Counselors: Zur Institute is Provider Approved by The State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Provider # 08-001.
  • Texas Professional Counselors: Zur Institute is Provider Approved by The Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Provider # 1020.

   California CE Information:

  • California Psychologists: As of December 2006, California Psychologists can take up to 27 CE credits via online courses. You can also purchase a package of 27 online CE credits for only $169 or a package of 36 online CE credits for $199 and split it over three renewal periods. For the exact wording of the regulations, click here.
  • MFTs & LCSWs in California: You can now earn ALL 36 required CE credits with online courses, such as the Zur Institute's online courses. You can also purchase a package 18 online CE credits for only $139, 27 CE credits for $169 or a package of 36 online CE credits for $199 and split it over three renewal periods.
  • California psychologists: California psychologists CAN take courses by American Psychological Association (APA) Approved Sponsors (such as the Zur Institute) in order to fulfill their CE requirements towards their California license renewal. All Zur Institute courses meet the CA-BOP requirements. The Institute is an American Psychological Association (APA) approved sponsor, and therefore we cannot file with CA-MCEP on your behalf. You need to file with MCEP, yourself, by simply sending them their form, a copy of the certificate/s and the appropriate fee. You can download and print the MCEP Reporting Form at: http://www.cpapsych.org/associations/6414/files/mcepaa/files/MCEP_Reporting_Form.pdf.
    Please Note: As of January 2013, The MCEP Accrediting Agency will cease operating. As of January 2013, 10% of all licensees will be selected annually for audit and required to report their CE activity directly to the BOP. This means that psychologists will be responsible for proving compliance and providing all CE documents upon request. Please see http://www.cpapsych.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=7 for more information. (Prior to January 2013, you will still be required to submit the MCEP Reporting Form. See instructions above).
  • California Addiction Counselors: Provider approved by the California Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) , Provider #CEP 4N-08-116-0511.
  • California RNs, LVNs & Psychiatric Technicians can take all 30 CE credits online, with courses by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA-BRN) Approved Sponsors (such as the Zur Institute) in order to fulfill their CE requirements towards their California license renewal. All Zur Institute Courses meet the CA-BRN requirements.
  • California Ethics and Law Requirement:
    • The CA requirement must be fulfilled each renewal cycle.
    • California Ethics and Law requirement for Psychologists by the BOP is 4 hrs. and for MFTs and LCSWs by BBS is 6 hrs.

    • BOP regulations of Jan. 2007 allow California psychologists to use their own judgment in determining what courses or experiences fulfill the ethics requirement. You can read about it at http://www.psychboard.ca.gov/licensee/education.shtml. The fact that a specific course is not on the list on our required ethics courses does not mean you cannot use it.   • California Aging and Long-Term Care Requirement:
    • California law requires that all licensees, who are renewing their licenses after January 1, 2005, must either provide proof of completion of a three-hour continuing education course in Aging and Long-Term Care or, alternatively, show proof of its equivalent in teaching or practicing experience.
    • The following courses fulfill the one-time Aging and Long-Term Care requirement for psychologists, MFTs and LCSWs in California, and for psychologists, social workers and counselors in other states:

  • California Spousal or Partner Abuse Requirement:
    • The following courses fulfill the one time California Spousal for Partner Abuse requirement for psychologists, MFTs and LCSWs in California, and for psychologists, social workers and counselors in other states. As of 1/1/05, MFTs and LCSWs need 7 CE to fulfill this requirement.
  • Pre-Licensure Requisites in CA:
    • The following courses fulfill the licensure pre-requisite course requirements for psychologists, MFTs and Social Workers in California.

      Psychologists in CA – Pre-Requisites

      • Spousal and Partner Abuse: 2 hours or 15 hours dependent on when candidate started their graduate program. For course offerings that fulfill the pre-licensure requirement for psychologists, click here.
      • Human Sexuality (10 hours, required): For Human Sexuality online course that fulfills the pre-licensure requirement for psychologists, click here.
      • Child Abuse (7 hours, required): For Child Abuse courses that fulfills the pre-licensure requirement for psychologists, click here or click here.
      • Aging and Long-Term Care (10 hours): Required for those who begin graduate study on or after January 1, 2004. For course offerings on Aging that fulfill the pre-licensure requirement for California psychologist, click here.
      • Pre-licensure savings package of above four online courses (44 CE Credits), click here.
      • Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency (15 hours, required). While the above human sexuality, child abuse, spousal/partner abuse and aging/long-term care courses can be taken from sponsors approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), such as, our courses at the Zur Institute, the alcoholism/chemical dependency course must be taken at an accredited or approved educational institution or at an extension course offered by such an institution. Therefore, our Substance abuse course cannot fulfill this requirement.

      MFTs in CA – Pre-Requisites

      • Aging and Long-Term Care: 10 hours required for those who begin graduate study on or after January 1, 2004. For course offerings on Aging that fulfill the pre-license requirement for California MFTs, click here.
      • Human Sexuality (10 hours): For Human Sexuality online course that fulfills the pre-license requirement for California MFTs, click here.
      • Child Abuse (7 hours): For Child Abuse courses, click here or click here.
      • Pre-licensing savings package, for those who completed their graduate studies IN California, of above three online courses (29 CE Credits), click here.
      • Spousal and Partner Abuse: 15 hours required for those who began their degree program on or after January 1, 2004. (No hour requirement for those who began their degree program for the period of January 1, 1995 through December 31, 2003). Applicants who graduated outside California and need to take this course can take the Zur Institute Intimate Spousal and Partner Abuse course for 15 CE credits. For the course, click here.
      • Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency (15 hours, required). Applicants who graduated outside California and need to take this course can take the Zur Institute Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependence course for 15 CE credits. For course, click here.
      • Pre-licensing savings package, for those who completed their graduate studies OUTSIDE California, of above five online courses (59 CE Credits), click here.
      • California Law and Professional Ethics: 2 semester or 3 quarter units. This course must be taken within a qualifying degree program.
      • Psychological Testing: 2 semester or 3 quarter units required for persons who began graduate study on or after January 1, 2001, and all out-of-state applicants regardless of when graduate training began. This course must be taken within a qualifying degree program.
      • Psychopharmacology: 2 semester or 3 quarter units, required for persons who began graduate study on or after January 1, 2001, and all out-of-state applicants regardless of when graduate training began. This course must be taken within a qualifying degree program.

      LCSWs in CA – Pre-Requisites

      • Spousal and Partner Abuse: 15 hours required for those who began their degree program on or after January 1, 2004.     Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC) and Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CCRC):
    CRCs and CRCCs can receive post-approval CE credits for completing courses offered by the Zur Institute. You must submit a post attendance application (found in your maintenance & renewal guide book or at http://www.crccertification.com/downloads/15renewal/Post_Approval_App_0307I.pdf), the Zur Institute Certificate of Completion which you receive upon successful completion of a course, and the $10.00 CRCC fee ($35.00 for 4 or more courses).     Registered Nurses:
    Nurses in states other than California may be able to take courses offered by the Zur Institute. The Zur Institute is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN) to offer CE credits to nurses (Provider #CEP 14826). Verify with your State Board and/or Professional organization.

    The following states may accept CE programs offered by CA-BRN Approved Sponsors, such as the Zur Institute, to fulfill the CE requirements for Nurses.

    Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa (not for child abuse), Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Texas (Type 1), Utah, Wyoming

    Licensed Vocational Nurses:
    Nurses in states other than California may be able to take courses offered by the Zur Institute. The Zur Institute is an approved provider by the California Board of Vocational Nurses (CA BVNPT) to offer CE credits to Licensed Vocational Nurses.     Psychiatric Technicians:
    Psych Techs in states other than California may be able to take courses offered by the Zur Institute. The Zur Institute is an approved provider by The California Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians (CA BVNPT) to offer CE credits to Psychiatric Technicians. Verify with your State Board and/or Professional organization.

    Addiction Counselors: National Certified Addiction Counselors (NCAC) and Master Addiction Counselors (MAC), California Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC), Certified Addiction Specialists (CAS):
    The Zur Institute is approved by the California Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) to provide CE credits to California Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors. Provider #4N-08-116-0511.
