Dr. Alison Freeman is a hearing impaired psychologist who has been working in the field of deafness since 1980. As a young graduate student, she started Santa Clara County Mental Health Services in California for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People. Since then, she has pioneered several other programs in various counties and did her post-doctorate fellowship at University of California San Francisco Center on Deafness. Her dissertation was on "Mental health treatment intake and outcome evaluation in a deaf population".

Dr. Freeman is a staff psychologist at California State University at Northridge and works with both hearing and hearing impaired students and is an adjunct professor at Cal Lutheran in the graduate school of education training teachers of deaf children on the psychological aspects of hearing loss. She also has a private practice and provides counseling and assessment services to children, adolescents and adults who have hearing loss. Additionally, she has provided consultation and expert testimony on the psychological impact of lack of communication access in work and medical settings.

As a writer, she has written numerous articles and presented to numerous local, state and national hearing loss organizations as well as presenting at local and state conventions for psychologists in California.
