Coherence TherapyMemory Reconsolidation is the current buzzword in psychotherapy, and for good reason. It refers to the recent discovery in the field of neurobiology that by temporarily unlocking synapses it's possible to actually rewire the neurons containing problematic implicit meanings and knowings about oneself or the world and manifesting as psychological symptoms. When this occurs, those implicit meanings or knowings are not just suppressed, or overwritten by healthier ones, but are permanently erased. Coherence Therapy maps out a unique and clearly defined strategy for activating the chemical responses that unlock (depotentiate) implicit emotional knowings at the synaptic level, and then helping them re-lock (reconsolidate) as new knowings that more accurately and adaptively reflect the reality of oneself or the world.

In this introductory course of a four-part video and PowerPoint Presentation (in pdf format), Dr. Niall Geoghegan, a Certified Trainer through the Coherence Psychology Institute, lays out the basic vocabulary and core concepts of Coherence Therapy. He then presents a case example to illustrate how the Coherence Therapist uses a series of experiential techniques to quickly access core implicit meanings about self or the world that underlie a particular presenting symptom. He continues the case example to demonstrate how Coherence Therapy helps clients integrate previously unconscious implicit knowings into everyday conscious awareness, and explains how to set up the experiential conditions necessary to depotentiate and permanently transform archaic meanings and knowings through Memory Reconsolidation. Finally, a Resources page is provided for further study.
