GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION
Ken Wilber developed an Integral Model called AQAL (pronounced ah-qwul) in 1995 that distilled common elements in cross-cultural research and methodologies from traditional, modern, and postmodern disciplines. Together with multi-disciplinary scholars, he has further refined AQAL for the past thirteen years.
This course presents 6-AQAL, the most comprehensive map available to psychologists and other healthcare professionals today. It offers an expansive, holistic model for diagnosis and treatment based on the six irreducible aspects of human development and therapy: Quadrants (major perspectives), Levels (stages of development), Lines (multiple intelligences), States (waking, dreaming, altered, etc.), Types (Myers-Briggs, Male/Female, etc.), and the Self-System (who navigates and integrates them all). The 6-AQAL Model thus forms the theoretical basis for an emerging Integral Psychology that honors the "true but partial" nature of all existing schools of Psychology and provides a robust methodology to integrate their best practices (Integral Methodological Pluralism). Recognition that psychopathologies can arise within various levels of development, the need for stage-specific treatment, and an Integral Psychology are all reviewed in this course.
This course is comprised of five articles which describe and define the development of Wilber's Integral metatheory, the main aspects of Wilber's Integral Model and its applicability to Psychology, the key terms and definitions used throughout the Integral Model Psychology, and the application of the Integral Methodological Pluralism (IMP) to Cancer Patient Advocacy. A final article provides a comprehensive list of suggested readings for those who wish to further investigate Wilber's Integral Model (6-AQAL map) and Integral Psychology.
