This course will review current standards of care that all clinicians need to maintain in order to avoid board complaints or civil lawsuits and to keep their licenses. By outlining 25 specific ways in which therapists need to pay close attention to their practice, this course ensures participants are equipped to understand the ethical, legal, and clinical risks impacting them. Topics will also include some of the complex issues related to therapists engaging with clients via texting and social media and some of the main ethical considerations surrounding telehealth.

Educational Objectives

This course will teach the participant to

Differentiate between ethical, legal, clinical, and risk management aspects of cases
Describe the three most common complaints of state licensing boards filed against licensed psychotherapists and counselors
