Online supervision, also referred to as E-Supervison, emerges at the rapidly expanding intersection of supervision and telemental health. What are some of the advantages of online supervision compared with face-to-face supervision? Why do online therapists actually need to have some online supervision? Are the online verbal, personal and social cues of psychotherapy and supervision limited? How do online supervisees and supervisors develop the supervisory alliance? What are the ethical and legal issues involved with online technology in supervision?
This intermediate course is comprised of 2 video interviews (text transcripts provided) and 6 articles. The first section of the course presents an overview of the clinical, legal and ethical issues concerning online supervision. The second section covers in more depth the legal and ethical issues. The third section presents technological ideas and equipment. The fourth section covers clinical issues for effective online psychotherapy and supervision. Additional resources and references are provided for further study, but they are not part of the course.
