Participants begin the training by exploring foundational EMDR framework elements, discussing treatment goals, and honing in on the history-taking phase and preparation phases of EMDR. Through experiential exercises and case studies, participants will learn essential techniques for preparing clients for the therapeutic journey, ensuring readiness and resilience for the processing phases ahead.
In the practice portions of the training, participants spend one-on-one time guiding one another through the core processing phases of EMDR therapy, which include assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, and closure. Opportunities abound to work alongside other mental health professionals in a mock client/practitioner relationship with the goal of promoting adaptive processing and integration of traumatic memories. Participants find the hands-on approach key to building confidence in applying EMDR skills in clinical settings.
Educational Objectives
This training will teach the participant to
- Developing an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma
- Identifying the importance of memory networks and neural networks of trauma.
- Learning about the adaptive information processing (AIP) system of EMDR
- Identify the 3 prong approach of EMDR
- Utilizing the 8 phase model of EMDR.
- Developing and implementing the use of dual awareness techniques as they apply to bilateral stimulation.
