DESCRIPTION: With the growing diversity of clients seeking mental health care, there is a pressing need to improve the cultural sensitivity of therapeutic interventions, particularly for Arab Americans as a minority group. The Arab American community is a culturally diverse ethnic group that has received relatively little attention in academic and clinical literature compared to other ethnic groups in the United States. This webinar will provide an overview of Arab populations, focusing on their ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. It will also explore the impact of both actual and perceived experiences of discrimination and prejudice on the mental health of Arab clients. The seminar will offer clinical recommendations for culturally sensitive treatment strategies to support clinicians working with this population.

Vivian is an Arab American licensed mental health counselor with over ten years of experience working in multicultural settings. She is a qualified supervisor with the Florida Counseling Board, offering supervision for registered intern clinicians in the state. Vivian holds an M.S.Ed in Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University and is currently pursuing her PhD. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, residential treatment centers, and outpatient services. Currently, she practices both in a group practice and her private practice in Florida, where she serves clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Vivian specializes in treating anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and adjustment issues. Vivian is actively engaged in supporting individuals within the Arab American community.
