DESCRIPTION: Very few therapists receive training on talking to clients about sex and many are thus uncomfortable broaching this topic. Yet, many clients have sexual concerns and research shows that they often wait for the therapist to bring this topic up. Research also shows a significant relationship between sexual satisfaction and both life- and relationship-satisfaction. As part of enhancing well-being, it’s thus essential that we ask our clients about their sex lives–and be prepared to help them with this important aspect of their life.
This beginning level webinar will overview the importance of talking about sex in therapy. Basic technique and language for doing so will be overviewed. Additionally, a basic, overarching treatment model for helping clients with sexual concerns will be presented. Finally, a brief overview of treating the most common sexual concerns will be given and resources for additional learning provided.
Target audience: This course is appropriate for all mental health professionals
Content level: Introductory
