CE Requirements for California Counselor
How many CE units does California require?
36 hours every 2 years
Additional Information
3 hours Telehealth (one-time requirement)
6 hours law and ethics -3 hours pertaining to California law and ethics
6 hours suicide risk assessment and intervention (one-time requirement)
7 hours HIV assessment/treatment (First time renewals for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC)
7 hours child abuse assessment and reporting (First time renewals for LEP)
15 hours alcoholism and other chemical substance dependency
Pre-licensing: 10 hours aging and long-term care
APCC- 3 hours of California Law & Ethics EACH year
Supervision Training Requirement 15 hours of supervision training
18 hours earned through self study allowed
*A course taken on law and ethics designed specifically to meet supervisor training requirements cannot also be accepted toward meeting the six-hour law and ethics course required of all licensees each renewal period. In other words, a single course will not fulfill both requirements. However, all such courses do count toward the overall 36-hour CE requirement.
