This course approved for New Jersey social workers.
In this intermediate level course, you will become familiar with the purpose and process of clinical supervision. You will review the currently accepted models for conducting supervision, the requirements posed by various licensing bodies, the skills and qualities of supervisor and supervisee, which promote effective supervision, and the ethics associated with supervisory relationships. Whether your interest is simply the expansion of knowledge of all things clinical or whether you are considering becoming a supervisor, this course will expand your understanding of supervision and its impacts.
The course is composed of thirteen articles and one audio. The first group of articles provide a thorough review of the requirements for supervision of trainees in Psychology, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapy (with emphasis on California laws and regulations). The next section presents the various models of supervision currently being used, the qualities and skills associated with effective supervisors and trainees, an alternative perspective about the process of clinical supervision and Evidenced Based Practices in use. The assessment of competency in supervision is reviewed, followed by an article which reviews all aspects of ethics and laws which are relevant to the supervisory experience. An audiotaped interview (transcript provided) presents the beliefs and opinions of David Wexler, Ph.D. regarding effective supervision. The next article discusses multicultural competencies required for cross-cultural supervision. The final article provides an opportunity to incorporate what is covered in this course using clinical vignettes.

DESCRIPTION: Early attachment experiences wire brain circuits, create core beliefs (i.e. internal working models), and form the template for future relationships. Disrupted, anxious and disorganized attachment often results in depression, anxiety disorders, shame, aggressive and self destructive behaviors, toxic relationships, and physical illness.
In this training, Dr. Levy introduces and explains how to use experiential and skill-based techniques to improve emotional dysregulation, beliefs and alleviate symptoms of trauma and PTSD. He will delve into strategies for resolving anger and shame, as well as assisting clients in letting go of past trauma through forgiveness, and self acceptance.
