Identifying Human Trafficking: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals

Human trafficking is one of the oldest forms of interpersonal violence, yet most clinicians assume they will never work with this population. More striking, most mental health professionals encounter victims of human trafficking, especially outside of their practices. Whether it is people coming door to door, workers they may interact with and those engaging in what appear to be benign or charitable activities.

Nearly 28 million people across the world today are exploited through human trafficking networks. Despite the increase in media attention and funding for this issue, mental health professionals often have little to no training about how to identify and support survivors. This course provides an in-depth exploration of definitions of human trafficking and commercial exploitation of children (CSEC) as well as address myths and misconceptions, detail signs and symptoms of trafficking, and model practical strategies for safety planning and navigating resources across the US.

This beginner-level webinar is applicable to all mental health, and medical professionals, regardless of practice setting or location in the US.
