Is my Client on the Spectrum? Dispelling Myths About Autism Diagnoses
Clinicians across a variety of settings are serving autistic individuals who are missing a correct diagnosis. Misunderstandings about the neurology of behavior and the meaning of the DSM-5 guidelines are active barriers to correct diagnosis and ultimately to better outcomes.
This course is designed for clinicians at an introductory or intermediate level who would like to improve their understanding of the DSM – 5 guidelines for autism diagnosis. Course will include information about the neurology of behavior and the meaning of such terms as “present in the developmental period” and “across multiple contexts.” The seven diagnostic criteria will not be covered in this course, but is the focus of another course.
Educational Objectives
This course will teach the participant to
- Identify neurologic behavior as both consistent and inconsistent.
- Describe the meaning of "present in the early developmental period."
- Describe the meaning of "across multiple contexts."
