While mindfulness has been recognized as largely beneficial to a wide range of client concerns and issues, there is not a lot of training on how to offer it to clients in a safe and informed way. We may think we understand mindfulness if we’ve experienced meditation ourselves but to teach these skills requires preparation and forethought. This course will teach you how and why mindfulness works, what it is (and isn’t), and how to present it to your clients in a safe and trauma-informed way, including specific interventions and exercises to use, and when and how to modify these exercises for individual needs and concerns.
This introductory level course is designed for people who may have little to some personal experience with mindfulness but who struggle to bring that experience into the therapy room with clients. There are four sections to the course including the history and neuroscience of mindfulness, a brief primer on the neuroscience of mindfulness, specific interventions and practices to use with clients, and how to make mindfulness trauma informed.
In addition, this course includes a list of helpful resources, as well as worksheets and scripts, for guided meditation practice outside of sessions that can be used to support clients in developing their mindfulness skills.
