The importance of mental health services for those with complex medical conditions, while recognized, often takes a back seat in the medical decision-making process. While we are uniquely qualified to add perspectives crucial to patient well-being, providers need to be creative and, at times assertive in communicating concerns that are often not evident to medical personnel. Our responsibilities may also involve incorporating the needs of families, friends, social services, and medication management into the treatment plan.
Using a case presentation, Dr. Richard LaBrie will describe ways to skillfully and effectively work within the medical system in a manner that optimally benefits our patients. He will discuss the importance of staying within the scope of one’s professional practice while asserting one’s professional standing. Dr. LaBrie will provide insights into how to both advocate for, and provide treatment to, patients undergoing intensive medical treatment. He will address strategies for communicating to physicians and associated medical staff.
This presentation will be interactive with plenty of opportunity for questions to be raised and concerns discussed.
