Mental health apps are a convenient, free or inexpensive way to get support for a wide range of issues. From veterans struggling with PTSD, to the millions of people suffering from anxiety and depression, people of all walks of life can have support anywhere, anytime. There are apps for mental health professionals to aid with diagnosis and medication interaction, apps for psychology students learning the DSM, and mood trackers for continuous reporting of changes.
More apps are added every day. They can be used in conjunction with face-to-face therapy or telehealth, or instead of working with a professional. For clients wanting support at the touch of a button, apps can bring stability and calm in between sessions.
Therapists can go over the apps with clients, using them as part of the treatment. In an era where clients are accustomed to getting a wide range of needs met online at all hours, it is fitting that mental health is no exception.
You can view our apps list to get started, and write us with your suggested additions any time.
Note: If you are creating your own mental health app, we recommend including a statement that using the app does not constitute psychotherapy or counseling, does not establish client-psychotherapist relationship, and is educational rather than clinical. You may also wish to check with your insurance company regarding coverage.
