Sexual Issues: Diagnosis and Treatment

Whether through desire conflicts, chronic dissatisfaction, affairs, or dysfunctions, sexual issues form a large part of every therapist's practice. Unfortunately, virtually all therapists have grown up in a sex-negative culture, which affects our work as much as it affects our clients' lives. And most therapists, as competent members of adult society, have many inaccurate assumptions about sexuality - which mirror the inaccurate assumptions that cause many clients' sexual problems in the first place.

In this course professionals learn a compelling new model of sexuality that focuses on its positive aspects; challenges clients' tendencies to self-identify as inadequate; sees society's sex-negativity as a source of psycho-sexual pathology; and confronts ways in which psychotherapy demonizes sexuality. Psychotherapists can learn to reframe clients' goals so that, when reached, they enhance rather than limit clients' satisfaction and growth. In so doing, therapists can empower clients to make better sexual choices, function more as they would like to, and better integrate eroticism into their relationships.

This intermediate level course is comprised of five hours of recorded live audio lectures with Dr. Marty Klein, esteemed sex expert, award-winning author, and long-time couples therapist (transcripts provided). The content is practical, funny, and honest. For psychotherapists ready to learn more about effectively addressing sexual issues in therapy, this is an excellent place to start or continue. Additional resources and references are provided for further study, but they are not part of the course.

"The bedroom is its own special kingdom." - Dr. Marty Klein
