A six-session, 18-hour, live interactive Certification training with Master Clinician Dr. Marty Klein.
About this Training
This series is six total sessions of 3 hours each, for a total of 18 CE hours. It runs from Oct 2023-Mar 2024, taking place on one Saturday each month from 10 am – 1:15 PT/1-4:15 pm ET. In addition to receiving a 3 CE hour certificate for each session, upon completion of the entire series, you’ll be issued a Certificate in Couples Therapy. These sessions can purchased as a bundle or individually.
Description
Couples therapy consists of dozens of clinical decisions every hour—hundreds of decisions over the course of each case. Here’s a practical training that will build the skills you need to make these decisions, and to continue fine-tuning your work as you discover each couple’s unique clinical challenges.
Most couples enter therapy with a specific vision of their problems. They may describe themselves as having “anger problems,” “sexual incompatibility” or “trust issues”. A skillful therapist will explore how the clients’ framing of their situation is keeping them stuck–and how they might change that. While looking at the most common topics in couples therapy, Dr. Klein will show you how to identify the powerful client narratives that keep couples stuck in their dysfunctional patterns.
Couples typically want to talk about content—who’s doing or saying the wrong thing regarding money, parenting, sex, or whatever. In contrast, the most effective therapy addresses couples’ processes—and when couples learn that perspective and face who they are, they can frequently address their content problems themselves. That’s effective therapy.
In this intermediate-level training you’ll learn how to teach couples the skills they need in order to grow and change—and help them overcome their resistance to that very growing and changing. Take all six trainings and you’ll be a more effective couples therapist, with better clinical outcomes—and you’ll enjoy this challenging, fascinating work more.
The training will consist of didactic PowerPoint presentations, with frequent references to actual couples’ cases. There will be plenty of time for questions, including discussions of participants’ cases. Dr. Klein will include occasional brief role-playing to demonstrate the application of various interventions. And as Marty’s world-wide audiences know, you’ll laugh while you learn—guaranteed!

Dr. Marty Klein has been a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist for over 40 years—some 45,000 sessions with individuals and couples. He is the award-winning author of seven books about sexuality and relationships.
Every year Marty appears in various national media, such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Daily Show. His Psychology Today blog gets 30,000 views per month, and is widely quoted.
Marty has given over 1,000 keynote speeches and training programs to groups including the American Humanist Association, Lutheran Family & Children’s Services, Miami Women’s Hospital, New York Law School, American Library Association, and California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (who have invited him to be a Master Presenter at 11 statewide conferences). Marty has also trained professionals in thirty-five countries, including China, India, Morocco, and Ukraine.

This live training is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led polls.
To be eligible for Live CE credits, you must be logged in the entire time. Entry to the training will be closed 5 minutes after the scheduled start time.
This training will be hosted through Zoom. Upon registration, participants will be emailed a link directly from Zoom. Additionally, the link will be available in your Zur Institute account, which you can use or you simply log into your Zur account and enter the training from the My Trainings section of your account.
The training will open 10 minutes prior to start time. It is recommended that you join early to give yourself time to troubleshoot potential connection problems.
Tokens may not be used with trainings.
Course completion & CE info
Course completion requirements: After the training if you attended the entire training you will have access to the course in your My Courses. If you did not attend the entire training you will have access to the course within 3-5 days when the video is uploaded to the course. You will be notified by email when the recording is ready.
In order to receive Live CE credit hours, you must attend the entire training and then complete the post training test and evaluation within 30 days of the end of the training.
If you pay and either miss part of the training or are unable to attend: Don’t worry. You can still obtain CE credits (though not Live) by viewing the recording and taking the post-test and evaluation. You will receive an email notification when the recording is ready for viewing, no later than 5 days after the training is over. You have 3 years to complete a home-study course. NOTE TO PSYCHOLOGISTS: For CA and NY Psychologists this training satisfies requirements for live, interactive Continuing Education. For psychologists not licensed in NY or CA, due to APA policies, this training does not meet criteria for live interactive Continuing Education and certificates will be designated as home study.
This training satisfies requirements for live CE credits for all professions except psychologists outside California and New York, as noted above. Each state sets its own requirements for licensure, including continuing education requirements, to maintain licensure. Questions about CE requirements for state licensure should be directed to your state board.
