The sex addiction movement addresses fundamental human (and therefore clinical) issues: lust, desire, guilt, fantasy, decision-making, and the relationship of love and sex. The answers generated by this model, however, have important limitations—and for many people, they are disastrous, contradicting the best practices of psychotherapy and couples counseling.
We will examine how patients’ impulsive or seemingly out-of-control sexual behavior may really involve:
Why does it matter what we call (supposedly) out-of-control sexual behavior? Why are the overwhelming majority of patients diagnosed as sex addicts men—and what does that mean?
Most importantly, how can we best diagnose and treat patients with problematic sexual decision-making?
We’ll also look at the new narrative of porn addiction, and how it’s used to claim that porn is now a public health problem (rather than an old-fashioned immorality problem).

Dr. Marty Klein, PhD has been an MFT and Certified Sex Therapist for 39 years. A founding editorial board member of the Journal of Porn Studies, his recent book (his 7th) is His Porn, Her Pain: Confronting America’s Porn Panic With Honest Talk About Sex. Marty has trained tens of thousands of professionals in human sexuality in over 40 countries; audiences invariably describe his workshops as thought-provoking, down-to-earth, and entertaining.
Marty appears regularly in national media such as The New York Times, National Public Radio, and the Daily Show. Regularly called upon to give expert testimony in human sexuality in state and federal courts, he recently gave two Congressional briefings on evidence-based sex education. This webinar will be hosted through Zoom. Upon registration, participants will be emailed a link directly from Zoom. Course completion requirements: After the webinar if you attended the entire webinar you will have access to the course in your My Courses. If you did not attend the entire webinar you will have access to the course within 3-5 days when the video is uploaded to the course. You will be notified by email when the recording is ready.
In order to receive Live CE credit hours, you must attend the entire webinar and then complete the post webinar test and evaluation within 30 days of the end of the webinar.
If you pay and either miss part of the webinar or are unable to attend: Don’t worry. You can still obtain CE credits (though not Live) by viewing the recording and taking the post-test and evaluation. You will receive an email notification when the recording is ready for viewing, no later than 5 days after the webinar is over. You have 3 years to complete a home-study course.
