Why to Talk to Clients about Sex

For some this is an awkward question. Something to avoid unless the client brings it up and even then, perhaps make a referral to an “expert”. In all the hours of professional training and all the conferences I attended, not once was there mention of the importance of discussing sex ever brought up. Neither in treatment, nor during evaluations. This in spite of my working with clients more likely to experience sexual concerns. In retrospect, I can only wonder how much more effective my work would have been had I done so.
