This webinar satisfies requirements for live interactive CE credits for all professions.
DESCRIPTION: Clinicians frequently work with autistic and non-autistic partners or family members who care deeply about one another, yet experience repeated communication breakdowns, misunderstanding, emotional disconnection, and cycles of blame. These relationship struggles are often interpreted as problems with motivation, empathy, sensitivity, or effort, when in reality they may reflect differences in neurologic processing, social expectations, conversational style, emotional communication, and perspective-taking. This webinar provides a practical, neurology-informed framework for understanding communication patterns in neurodiverse couples and households, with strategies clinicians can immediately apply in therapy, family work, and consultation.
This beginning to intermediate-level webinar is designed for psychologists, counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, speech-language professionals, and other clinicians working with autistic adolescents and adults, couples, and families. Topics will include autistic neurology and communication, theory of mind and relational misunderstandings, task-oriented versus connection-oriented interaction styles, hidden social assumptions, emotional regulation and conversational demands, and practical interventions that reduce blame while improving communication and connection across neurotypes.
Target audience: This course is appropriate for all mental health professionals
