3 CE credit hours. This training satisfies requirements for live CE credits for all professions except psychologists licensed outside of California.

NOTE TO PSYCHOLOGISTS: For psychologists licensed in California & New York, this training satisfies requirements for live, interactive Continuing Education. For psychologists not licensed in CA & NY, due to APA policies, Continuing Education certificates will be designated as home study.

DESCRIPTION: Most couples enter therapy with a specific vision of their problems. They may describe themselves as having “anger problems,” “sexual incompatibility” or “trust issues”. A skillful therapist will explore how the clients’ framing of their situation is keeping them stuck–and how they might change that. While looking at the most common topics in couples therapy, Dr. Klein will show you how to identify the powerful client narratives that keep couples stuck in their dysfunctional patterns.

This training will describe and demonstrate various skills that improve communication. Using insights from linguistics, social psychology, and cultural studies, we will examine what makes communication smooth, and what forms obstacles to it. We’ll also consider the common client concern: “Why do we always have to talk about our feelings?”
